Educa issued many large art puzzles in the 90’s, using an elegant white box design. Although some of those puzzles appear sometimes, most of them are very rare today. In fact, they are not available in stores anymore. That is not surprising, since most of those puzzles are more than 20 years old.

The Wedding Feast of Cupid and Psyche represents the best work of Giulio Romano

This painting represents the best work of the artist. Giulio Romano was not only a painter, but also an architect. He painted this fresco to decorate the Tea Palace, which is his most famous work in architecture. It was a pleasure palace outside the city of Mantua. Giulio Romano was able to develop his full inventiveness and creativity there, because of the function of the building,

For that reason, Giulio Romano doesn’t need to include in his résumé that he was the main disciple and collaborator of Raphael. In fact, Raphael painted one of the frescos of this piece.

The painting is based on Cupid and Psyche. It is a story originally from Metamorphoses, also called The Golden Ass. The novel was written in the 2nd Century AD by Lucius Apuleius. It concerns the overcoming of obstacles to the love between Psyche and Cupid, and their ultimate union in marriage. This fresco depicts the reward of Psyche’s labors and the apotheosis of her adventures.

The painting shows amazing ability and imagination. The lively and stylized wedding feast includes nymphs, fauns, satyrs, and a drunken Silenus figure. It even depicts rare and exotic animals, like a camel and an elephant, which were very uncommon in those times.

The puzzle will become a colorful and delightful challenge.
