This wonderful map is manufactured by Blatz. The title in the box is Historical Map of the World. However, its real title is Orbis Terrae Compendiosa Descriptio ex Peritissimorum Totius Orbis Gaeographorum Operibus Desumta. The cartographer is Joan Baptista Vrints, who published this map in 1596. His names and last name appear in many different forms in historical documents.
This map holds the distinction of being the second printed world map (after Plancius‘ World Map of 1594) to use a style of richly decorated borders that would become the standard for world maps for over 100 years. Although this map has the distinction of being the second published map, it is in fact rarer than the Plancius’ World Map of 1594.
This puzzle is NEW with its original FACTORY SEAL.
Educa published in 2009 a 1000 piece version of this map with the title Ancient World Map.
